Thursday Hike – Relay Peak and Mount Houghton

Starting Location: Mount Rose (Summit) TH. Directions: I-580 South to NV-431 exit; past Mt Rose Ski Tahoe. At the summit, you will come to a parking lot on your right. Trailhead starts behind restrooms.
Elevation: 8911
Description: We will begin our hike at the trail head to Gray’s Lake. Once we come to the TRT, we will travel north on the TRT to Relay Peak and Mount Houghton. After lunch we will hike down to Galena Falls and continue to the Mt. Rose trail head parking lot. Mount Houghton is the second highest peak in the Mount Rose Wilderness at 10,483 ft. Please bring ample water since parts of the trail are in full sun.
Distance(s): 11.5 Route Type: Loop Elevation Gain: 1,515 (ft) Difficulty: 7 (1=Easy thru 10=Very Difficult)
Event Specific Information: We will shuttle from the Mt. Rose trail head parking lot to the Gray’s Lake trail head which is two miles south on Mt. Rose highway
What to Bring: Wear shoes suitable for hiking on dirt trails with loose rocks and mud. Layer clothing as appropriate for the weather. Trekking poles for those who use them. Sun protection. Bring plenty of water, snack/lunch.
