Starting Location: Donner Camp Picnic Grounds TH. Directions: From I-80, take CA 89 North for 3.2 miles; right turn at Tahoe National Forest sign

Description: We will walk about a 1/2 mile on the Donner Historic Site Loop Trail. From this site we will cross Highway 89 and follow the Emigrant Trail southwest over a ridge to Alder Creek. This is a climb of over 100 feet in the first quarter mile, followed by a decent to the creek. We will follow the trail upstream along Alder Creek for 3.3 miles. There are four stream crossings. After a short break for lunch/snack, we will return to the original trailhead. As we walk along Alder Creek, we will encounter foliage that includes lush creek-side shrubs, mixed forest and a variety of wild flowers.

What to Bring: Wear shoes suitable for hiking on dirt trails with loose rocks and mud. Layer clothing as appropriate for the weather. Trekking poles for those who use them. Sun protection. Bring plenty of water, snack/lunch.
