Starting Location: Indian Head. Directions: From the junction of I-80 and I-580/US-395 in Reno, take I-80 West to Exit #12 (Keystone Ave). Turn left onto Keystone (go under I-80). In about 0.6 miles, at Jones St, stay right onto Keystone Ave Frontage (don’t stay on Keystone and get onto the bridge). Turn right onto Riverside Dr. Turn left onto Booth St. (crossing the river). Turn right onto Idlewild Dr. In about 0.2 miles, turn right onto Cowan Dr. In about 0.2 miles, the large Indian Head totem will be on your left.
Facilities: Unknown
Description: Fun slow urban bike ride, about 11.5 miles long, 1.5 hours, slow pace. Lots to see, both brand new and historic. Downtown Reno is very different than it was just a few years ago. Some short climbing sections, but taken very slowly and gradually, not to worry.
Route: Start Idlewild Park, loop Reno H.S. down Riverside Dr. Ride over past new J hotel then up to the University. Riding in the center of campus has some nice sights. From the top of campus is a fun coasting descent down Evans, past the Aces ballpark and Harrah’s Auto Museum. Take Holcomb south to MidTown. Return north via Virginia and Center.
Good parking and restrooms in Idlewild. Start near the big totem head just beyond the Peace Officers memorial.
Distance(s): 11.5 Route Type: Loop
What to Bring: Helmets required. Other suggestions: Pinch your bike tires the day before. Add sunscreen, bright clothing, water bottle, and maybe a pre-ride Advil/Aleve/Aspirin.
