Description: The Sagehen Creek Trail is on Highway 89, near Truckee, CA. The hike starts at a dirt parking lot and head downstream along Sagehen Creek through a forest of pines, firs, cedars, wildflowers and lush riparian foliage to a large grass meadow often with abundant wildflowers. Sometimes Sagehen Creek has fields of Blue Camas Lilies in season. The hike will continue across the meadow and a small stream to the shore of Stampede Reservoir. At about 2.5 miles head back to the trailhead. This is an easy hike, mostly on a natural surface single-track trail. There is less than 200 feet total climb in about 2.5 miles, but the trail is not flat. It undulates and meanders through the forest section and is a bit primitive and narrow in some areas. This is one of the area’s most popular hikes.
