You will stay on Highway 20 all the way to Clearlake even though there are many twists and turns. Once you are at Clearlake you will turn onto CA-53 S (2nd exit out of the traffic circle). Then turn Right onto CA-29 N. Turn right on Main, right on State, right on Gaddy, and right on Soda Bay Road. Turn Left to State Park Road. Go to the boat launch. We will meet at the boat launch. Kayaks are free to launch but there is a $10 fee to park ($8 for Seniors. It is about a 4-hour drive.

Description: We will travel along the Soda Bay Water Trail. Along the trail, we will come across wetlands, tule reeds, views of Mt. Konocti, migratory waterfowl, and a grebe nesting area. For those that want to go a little further, you can paddle to geothermal hot springs. Part of the water trail is going down Kelsey Creek and part will be along the shoreline. There is lodging nearby and a casino that has rooms. Bring your lunch because there are picnic areas or a beach to stop and have lunch.

Route Type: Out-and-Back     Difficulty: 6 (1=Easy thru 10=Very Difficult)

Event Specific Information: For those that wish to, we are invited to my friend’s house for an outside potluck the night before the paddle. His property is on the lakefront in Soda Bay. The potluck is not part of the Olli event. It is just for fun. I will give his address to those who sign up.

What to Bring: Purchase the required AIS decal from the Department of Wildlife (NDOW.ORG) located at 1100 Valley Rd; Reno, NV. Check the website or call 775-688-1500. Dress for the weather. Have your life vest (PFD), hat, sunscreen, drinking water, bug spray and snacks.
