Hike Photos

Mary led hikers on her annual Nevada Day/Halloween hike with her & Vicky's cookie celebrating these two days day, the singing of the State song, and the  biographical story of Patrick McCarran given by historian Jim.

Delia led hikers to the summit of Mt. Rose in 3 hours, 40 minutes, passing the Mt Rose waterfall. 2.5 miles into hike. Unlike September 2020 where we were nearly blown off the slope of the mountain in frigid temperatures, today's hike was  on a sunny  day with cool temps & blue sky.  On top of the  10,766' summit we fanned & blew bubbles into the air against the magnificent backdrop of the glorious Lake Tahoe.  We also celebrated Vicky becoming the 8th OLLI hiker to crack the 2000 mile mark. Gary led us back down in a brisk 2 hours & 55 minutes.  What a great day day before the snow may blanket the summit in 48 hours.

Mary led hikers to the closed (due to Sierra Club's covid policy) Peter Grubb Hutt then onto Sand Ridge Lake.  Gary led the way back on this 10.5 mile hike.  This hiked honored the accomplishment of Harry who has now logged 2,000+ miles hiking with OLLI on Thursdays.

Sue led hikers,  8.5 miles on trails on Royal gorge, America's largest cross county  ski area.  The highlight of the hike (besides seeing wildflowers for the 3rd time in last 4 hikes) was the swing attached to a tree overlooking The American River Canyon.

Delia led hikers on a trail along Thomas Creek to Dry Pond then along Whites Creek.  Last week's hike saw many wildflowers along the way; this week's gave us several mini waterfalls in the fast, flowing creeks.

Gary led hikers on a 8.3  mile hike to the edges of Stampede Reservoir.  Along the way were  numerous, variety of  flowers.   And as in years past, we stopped along the creek at our usual place of rememberance to  the memory of our late hiker frirnd, Chip, who use to lead this hike.

Mary led hikers on a grueling 11 mile hike on a rocky, dirt trail in open air,  on a 90+ degrees day!  Highlight of the hike was 9 unbeknowst hikers passing a bear behind a bush within a few feet from the trail while the last two hikers heard it growl and quickly caught up with the nine.

Mary & Rick led hikers to the summit of Steamboat Peak with its new white inscribed (John 3:16) cross) with Mt Rose in its skyline.

Delia led hikers on yet another & new trails including The Silver Ranch Trail, and Old Buzzy's Tanch Trail  part of The Prison Hill .

Gary led hikers on a 7.3 mile hike starting in Rancho San Rafael Park and going through the newly mural painted tunnel under McCarran Blvd to The Basque Monument and to the University of Nevada's "N" on the Peavine  mountain range.  After the official hike was over,  the hikers were pleasantly surprised with a St. Patrick's Day luncheon at St Patrick's Grove in the park.  Irish coffee, bread, dip,  brownies & chocolates were the featured treats.

Delia & Irene led hikers on 3 different trails & through 4 parks following the Last Chance Ditch  which included  pasturelands  on a 6.3 mile hike.
