Starting Location: Galena Creek Visitor Center TH. Directions: Heading up the Mt. Rose Highway, Galena Creek is about 7 miles above the junction with I580. Take the right turn off the highway at the Galena Creek Recreation Area, and then take the right turn into the Galena Creek Visitor Center parking lot.
Description: The Lower Galena Creek Trail is a pleasant mild to moderate walk with an out-and-back distance of about 3 miles. The elevation gain is evenly distributed. It is a natural surface trail.
Route Type: Out-and-Back Elevation Gain: 10 (ft) Difficulty: 3 (1=Easy thru 10=Very Difficult)
Event Specific Information: This is a woodsy walk with lovely trees – Jeffrey Pine and Aspen. We will cross several bridges back and forth over the water. On the creek side there are alders, willows and wild roses. There is also a stretch of Montreux homes. We are starting early in an attempt to beat the heat that is forecast. You might want to double up on your usual water!
What to Bring: Might want to consider bringing drinking water and using sunscreen.
