Description: From the Shirley Canyon Trailhead we will follow the creek up Shirley Canyon for 2.5 miles passing three waterfalls until we reach large granite slabs. Be prepared to take a few tall steps that may require the use of your hands to hoist yourself up. At Shirley Lake we will take a break. The water is warm enough for a quick dip. After leaving Shirley Lake we follow in the direction of the Solitude chair lift towards a plateau where we will arrive at High Camp. At High Camp (8200′) there is a marketplace where you can purchase snacks. High Camp is the turnaround point for the Palisades Tahoe Aerial Tram. The ride down is free. Please be advised that the Tram does not operate during unsafe weather conditions. In July of 2015 our Olli group was held up at High Camp while we waited out a hail storm. Those who wish to do a total of eight miles can walk down from High Camp back to Olympic Village.
