Thursday Hike – Pah Rah Trail

Starting Location: Pah Rah Mountain Park. Directions: Take I-80 East to Exit 21 (Greg St/Vista Blvd). Turn left onto Vista Blvd. In about 2.7 miles, turn left onto Merlot Ct. The park is just ahead.

Description: The hike to Canoe Hill will begin on a short paved interpretive path. We will continue on a dirt road for a short distance before starting on the Pah Rah Trail. The trail begins with a gradual ascent before starting a more strenuous series of switchbacks. The trail will be rocky in several locations on the trail. At the top on Canoe Hill, we will have great views of the Truckee Meadows, the Sierras, and Spanish Springs Valley. After a brief stop at the top, we will continue south on the trail. This trail empties into a large basin. We will take an access trail that leads to an urban trail system which will lead us back to Pah Rah Mountain Park

Event Specific Information: This is our first shuttle hike of the year. We will all meet at Pah Rah Mountain Park and then shuttle to the Pah Rah Interpretive Center at Golden Eagle. The distance from Pah Rah Mountain Park and Pah Rah Interpretive center is 6.5 miles. We will need volunteers to shuttle hikers to the the starting location. Printed directions to Pah Rah Interpretive Center will be available for drivers.
IMPORTANT DIRECION INFO TO PAH RAH MOUNTAIN PARK!! Turn left on Merlot Ct. Do not turn right on Los Altos South. You will pass Baring Blvd traffic light before on Merlot Ct. light.
What to Bring: Wear shoes suitable for hiking on dirt trails with loose rocks and mud. Layer clothing as appropriate for the weather. Trekking poles for those who use them. Sun protection. Bring plenty of water, snack/lunch.
