Thursday Hike – Mount Rose Summit

Ride Sharing: Wedge Pkwy Starbucks Parking Lot @ 08:00 AM. Directions: 18250 Wedge Pkwy in Galena Junction Shopping Center
Starting Location: Mount Rose (Summit) TH. Directions: I-580 South to NV-431 exit; past Mt Rose Ski Tahoe. At the summit, you will come to a parking lot on your right. Trailhead starts behind restrooms.
Elevation: 8911
Description: We will hike 2.5 miles to the waterfall and pass Tamarack Lake early in the hike. The trail from the waterfall will be steady, through some streams but becomes more strenuous as we climb to the saddle. From the saddle, the final mile to Mt Rose Summit is above tree line, rocky, completely exposed and subject to weather changes. The summit may be cold and windy, so please be prepared. We will have lunch/snack at the top before we return to the trailhead. When we get to the summit of Mt Rose we will be at 10,785 ft!
Distance(s): 10.5 Route Type: Out-and-Back Elevation Gain: 2,000 (ft) Difficulty: 9 (1=Easy thru 10=Very Difficult)
What to Bring: Wear shoes suitable for hiking on dirt trails with loose rocks and mud. Layer clothing as appropriate for the weather. Trekking poles for those who use them. Sun protection. Bring plenty of water, snack/lunch.
