Thursday Hike – Damonte Ranch Wetlands

Starting Location: Damonte Ranch Park TH. Directions: From South Virginia Street go east 1 mile on Damonte Ranch Parkway, turn left on Steamboat Parkway past the light at Veterans Parkway to Damonte Ranch Park on the south side of Steamboat Parkway.
Description: Our hike will start on an asphalt trail at the Damonte Ranch Wetlands. After about a couple of miles we will head up a wide decomposed granite trail I discovered. There will be a slight/gradual elevation gain of 311 ft. This will take us to the Eastern Mountain Range with beautiful views of the Truckee Meadows and finishing our hike in the Damonte Wetlands.
Distance(s): 6.3 Route Type: Loop Elevation Gain: 311 (ft) Difficulty: 2 (1=Easy thru 10=Very Difficult)
Event Specific Information: There are a few snow and rain storms in the forecast this week. We will be on Asphalt and Decomposed Granite, so we should not have any mud on the trail.
What to Bring: Wear shoes suitable for hiking on dirt trails with loose rocks and mud. Layer clothing as appropriate for the weather. Trekking poles for those who use them. Sun protection. Bring plenty of water, snack/lunch.
