THE SNOWSHOE:  This moderate snowshoe begins on the opposite side of 267 where we park. The first mile is a steady but doable gradient with switchbacks as we climb away from the highway. After 1  1/4 miles we turn left at a spur trail where in 1/4 mile we reach a rock formation. The views of Lake Tahoe from the rocks are spectacular. If some of the group desires , we can continue on the Tahoe Rim Trail after we descend from the spur trail. The basic hike is 3 miles r/t and we can add a mile or so for a 5 mile r/t snowshoe.
Starry will lead those  who wish to snowshoe 3 miles r/t  back to their  cars.

CARPOOL: Those who wish may carpool from Kohl’s in West Reno . Meet at 9:15 am for a 9:30 am departure. Or meet at the Trailhead at 10:00 am. Please carpool with those who intend to do the same length snowshoe.

DIRECTIONS TO THE TRAILHEAD: Follow 1-80 W to CA- 267 E in Truckee. Turn left and continue on 267 past the turnoff for the Northstar Ski Resort. You will pass Martis Peak Road on your left and continue to climb on 267 past Brockway Summit. In less than 1/2 mile from the Summit , you will see a Tahoe Rim Trail sign on your right and just past the sign you will find a parking pad.

WHAT TO BRING: Snowshoes, Poles, Water, Snacks and/lunch , Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Hat. Dress in layers as it will be cold when we start but  the  prediction is for full sun and temps. in the mid 30’s .
