Ride Sharing: Wedge Pkwy Starbucks Parking Lot @ 09:00 AM. Directions: 18250 Wedge Pkwy in Galena Junction Shopping Center

Starting Location: Morgan Mill Preserve Open Space TH. Directions: Take I-580 south to Carson City to the Dayton/Fallon 50 East Exit. Continue east about 2.2 miles and stay in the right lane. When you get to Deer Run Road, turn right. There will be a United Rentals to your left when you get onto Deer Run Road. Go down about a 1/4 mile and you will see a sign to your right (BLM OFFICE). Right after, you will come to Morgan Mill Road and make a right. Continue down the road until you see the Morgan Mill parking area and make a left. There are bathroom facilities available.

Description: Most of the trail is level and on decomposed granite. We will hike along the Carson River, beside ranches and along a golf course. We will have beautiful views of the Sierra Mountains. Along the golf course are remnants of the Mexican Mill and the Superintendent’s house. Both were built in the 1860’s. The town of Empire and it’s Cemetery were established when the land was Utah Territory! There is also a Carson Emigrant Trail marker that we will take a look at. The Cemetery is only a couple of minutes from our parking area. If anyone is interested, we can go to the Cemetery after the hike. There is some signage at the entrance and very old headstones.

Distance(s): 7.0     Route Type: Loop     Difficulty: 2 (1=Easy thru 10=Very Difficult)

Event Specific Information: I did pre-hike some of the trail this weekend. The trail to the Mill is very boggy so we will look and talk about it from trail! We will be on decomposed granite trails and on pavement for about a 1/4 of a mile.

What to Bring: Wear shoes suitable for hiking on dirt trails with loose rocks and mud. Layer clothing as appropriate for the weather. Trekking poles for those who use them. Sun protection. Bring plenty of water, snack/lunch.
