Starting Location: Lockwood Park TH. Directions: Take I-80 East to Exit #22 (Lockwood). Turn right onto Canyon Way and right just after Lockwood Rd. (Don’t cross the Truckee river.) The Lockwood Trailhead is on the right, just short of the river. There is ample parking and clean pit toilets.

Description: The Lockwood trailhead us at a dirt parking area located on the North side of the Truckee River, about 3 miles east of Sparks. The main trail consists of two loops between the Truckee River on the south side and the railroad tracks and highway I-80 on the north side. The trails are mostly wide natural surface with a few mild inclines and include some nice views of the river. The round trip from the parking lot is approximately 3 miles.
On the south side of the river is another out and back trail located between the river on one side and pleasant homes on the opposite side. This trail is just over one mile long and provides an additional 2-mile round trip for those wishing a longer hike.
Distance(s): 5.0 or 3.0 Route Type: Loop Elevation Gain: 200 (ft) Difficulty: 2 (1=Easy thru 10=Very Difficult)
Event Specific Information: There is a sign for the Lockwood Trails, which is part of the Washoe County Parks system, at the exit from the highway, but it is difficult to see as you come off the off-ramp.
What to Bring: Drinking water and snacks. Hat and sunscreen are recommended. Trekking poles may be useful.
