SAWTOOTH TRAIL aka OLLI TO THE RESCUE, 6-29-17

18 hikers:  6 hiked 5 miles and 12 hiked the 10.  Got lost during the 1st 2.5 mile "lollipop loop"; walked a dirt road "the last unknown miles" when OLLI CAME TO THE RESCUE...with .6 miles remaining on this dirt road, a passing dirt biker while avoiding  a large root in the road ended up going over his handlebars in front of us hikers.  Injured & on the ground...former nurses Delia and Vicky tended to the  rider,  Matt.  Delia called his mom.  Meanwhile, runner Floyd ran back to John T's pick up truck and returned to the scene of the accident.  Matt was helped into John's van, who along with Vicky, drove to the hospital (followed in a car driven by Gary).  Later, Mary received a text from Matt's mom indicating her son had a dislocated shoulder, a brusied knee, and a concussion, and she thanked us for the help we gave her son....Well done Olli hikers....

SAGEHEN CREEK, 6-16-17

32 hikers hiked either 5.4 or 9 miles in memory of Chip Haynes who was to lead this hike but tragically passed away the day  before.  The hike was done with the permission of his wife, Diana, who said "Chip would have wanted us to hike, today."  On our return back, we got off the trail and grouped in a circle in an opening along The Sagehen Creek for a moment of silence to remember our hiker, our friend, Chip Haynes.  Kind words of fond remembrances were spoken and we concluded with the  understanding that we will meet again, here, in future years to always remember Chip.
