Ride Sharing: Wedge Pkwy Starbucks Parking Lot @ 09:00 AM. Directions: 18250 Wedge Pkwy in Galena Junction Shopping Center
Starting Location: Spooner Lake State Park Parking. Directions: Take I-580 South to US-50 West (in Carson City). In about 9.7 miles, veer right onto NV-28. In about a mile, turn right into Spooner Lake State Park and go to the Parking Lot.
Description: From the parking lot at Spooner State Park we will proceed along the trail to Marlette Lake (eventually turning into North Canyon Road). We will hike approximately 3.5 miles before breaking for a snack and returning to the parking lot. The trail portion is a gradual uphill climb and in snowshoes should be regarded as moderate hike. NOTE: we are not doing the entire 10.2 mile hike to the Lake.
Distance(s): 7.0 Route Type: Out-and-Back Elevation Gain: 700 (feet) Difficulty: 6 (1=Easy thru 10=Very Difficult)
Event Specific Information: Entrance to the park costs $10 per car (Nevada vehicles) and $15 for out of state.
Parking is limited so consider carpooling. There are Port-a-Potties in the parking lot, but the winter has not been kind to them.
Directions: From the carpool location proceed south on I-580. Continue onto US 50 heading east. Turn right onto N28 heading north for .8 of a mile. The park is on your right. At the T intersection go right and loop around into the parking area.
What to Bring: Snowshoes, Poles, Water, Snacks, Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Dress in layers.
